VERVAET Q SERIES

Models Q616 and Q621

The successor to the Beet Eater 617 has been in production for 23years and is finally here!

Vervaet have designed an all-in-one machine catering to almost all demands on the market today. The name Q-series comes from "Quad", it's a 4-wheeler. The rear wheels are mounted close together, to provide the same advantage as a trike - the wheels each run in their own track.

The machine can perform under all circumstances. The Q-series was developed modular, allowing features to be customisable. There are three toppers available.

  • 2 types lifting units

  • 2 tank sizes

  • two engines

  • 4 different chassis options.

The different options create 288 possible editions within the Q series.

Tyres

Both front and rear axle offer a choice in tyre sizes. At the front, there can be 710x42, 800x38 or 900x38 mm tyres, while at the rear the selection consists of 800, 900, 1000 or 1050 mm, all of them 32 inch rims. The latest in ultra-flex tyres from different brands can be fitted. Our expectation is to be able to drive the Q-616 just over 1 bar.

Like our 9 row Beet Eater, with its pyramid arrangement of the wheels, the new Q-series wheels only have 1 passage. It is a huge advantage compared to 2 or 3 passages in a track, because the soil compaction is greatly reduced.

We would like to note that crab-steering harvesters also claim to have one wheel passage, while their wheels partly run in the same track 2 or 3 times. Due to the rear axle which is mounted on a turntable, the machine is highly maneuverable, with an inside turning radius of only 2.4m. The front wheels are also steered with an angle of 8 degrees.

The front axle is a pivoting axle, with hydraulic cylinders to allow the machine to hang on against slopes, making it more stable, while at the same time, reduce the weight on the wheel on the valley-side, thus also preserving soil quality. Optionally available is a fully automatic leveler controlled by a G sensor.

The Q-series has tyre inflate systems as an optional extra. This allows the operator to inflate or deflate the tyre pressure on-the-move.

In addition to the tyre options, it is also possible to equip the machine with a rubber tracked front axle. This will greatly increase the contact surface of the front axle, which results in a lower ground pressure per cm2.

The major difference in comparison with the 617 on tracks, lies in the fact that the Q-series does not need to be equipped with a different harvesting unit. It can be simply adapted on a standard machine, which can then be switched at any time from tyres to rubber tracks.

Frame

Another innovation is the tilt T-fork. It can commute, just like the front axle. This makes it possible to let the whole machine tilt to the left or right. The rims have an offset of 10 cm, and can be mounted left or right on the wheel drive, so that one can choose from a narrow or wide wheel base. In the wide arrangement, the outside wheel track measures 2.80 meters with a spacing of 70 cm. In the narrow set-up, it is only 30 cm. It is conceivable that users on steep slopes will opt for the wide set-up. Or those who prefer to leave a strip of land un-touched by the wheels.

Tank

Not everyone is charmed by a large tank. Increasingly we have demand for a lighter machine. We have chosen to offer the new Q-series in 2 variants: Q-616 and Q-621.

The Q-616's has a fixed ring elevator and distributing auger. The capacity is calculated at 16 tonnes. However, to compete against the colleagues with the dog walk machines, we also needed a larger version. The Q-621 has an extendable ring elevator, auger and side extensions. As the name suggests, the capacity of this version is 21 tonnes.

The ring elevator is 20% wider than the previous 617 model, in order to smoothly charge the greater yields with less damage. Should the yield be lower, the speed can be further reduced which gives longer life and lower fuel consumption.

The discharge elevator is completely renewed. It now sits at the front of the tank, which gives a perfect view at the unloading process, and also keeps the machine's center of gravity low. The width is 1.40m, to better fill out trailers. The length of the valve is increased with no less than 80cm. This allows us to discharge higher and/or further. By tilting the front axle, the height of the discharge elevator can further increase or reduce by 50cm. (450cm max. and 190cm min.) Due to the ever-increasing trailer sizes as well as the desire to unload directly into lorries, it’s an important feature. The lower position is to reduce damage to the beets when starting to build a new heap. The length of the elevator ensures a safe distance from the wheels to the beet heap.

The side boards are made of straight sheet metal in order to minimize damage to beet.

The position of the elevator can be programmed for both the working position and the unloading position. The tank floors automatically switch on one by one so that the discharge elevator will not be overloaded.

Tank
Engine

The Q-616 is equipped with a 465horsepower motor with DAF, same as the previous 617 model.

The Q-621 features 510horsepower.

Both engines work at a low 1100 rpm to 1350 rpm.

The fuel consumption of the last 617 had been brought back to around 30 litres per hour.

Toppers

We offer three toppers:

1) Integral, which chops the leaves and puts it between the rows. Advantages: Low maintenance, lightweight and compact.

2) Combi, working integral or with leaf spreader. Advantage: it’s ready for all conditions.

Both the Integral and Combi can be equipped with the new multi-topper scalpers, that are guaranteed to give the best topping result, which nowadays is, taking off the leaf, but not cutting off the head of the beet.

3) Combi with Double Rotor, which has no scalpers and thus saves the entire head of the beet. Advantages: It’s the latest trend in defoliation but sadly not a good choice in stony areas.

Cleaning

Different types of soil require different cleaning systems. Vervaet have designed the machine with four options of cleaning systems available:

  • 3 cleaning turbines, one belt

  • 5 cleaning turbines

  • 6 cleaning turbines

  • 5 cleaning turbines and axial roller bed

You can also choose the turbine type or gates in all four. The diameter of the turbines has grown 8% in order to allow an even better flow.

Electronics

The Q-Series is equipped with all comforts, including:

  • Automatic lubrication,

  • Auto. 4 wheel steering,

  • Auto. Depth control of the harvester

  • Auto. Depth control topper

  • Auto. Tank  Discharge

  • Auto. RPM adjustment of machine functions according to forward speed.

  • Auto speed adjustment engine when stationary / driving / unloading bunker

  • Auto on and off machine at lowering / raising harvester and topper

  • Reversing direction all machine functions

  • Presets for setting machine to different circumstances.

  • Auto speed setting (Cruise)

  • Diagnostic system on almost all functions

  • Fuel consumption meter per hectare and per hour

  • capacity meter

  • camera system

  • LED-lighting

Auto speed control of the engine: In neutral, the engine reverts to idle speed, in harvesting mode it goes to the set speed, and while unloading on the heap, it also drops to 1100 rpm.
